General updates | JW – Could you review bespokefit release PR? After that I think we’ve exceeded max number of Bespokefit hours (30) this month. Means we should deprioritize bespokefit support until April. MT – Unclear - What if release is borked? And user support? JW – If released is borked, then we need to jump on it and we can deduct hours from April budget. User support for industry, but not for others until later in April.
Examples fixing/division of responsibility - If you have enough context in mind, could you lay out how you’d like this to work? MT – JM’s proposal that each repo’s owner should be responsible for making sure examples run in openff-docs or taking responsibility if informed that examples in openff-docs broke. That seems unambiguous in theory - the docs repo maintainer can’t be responsible for external code. I don’t think this is the right question to ask though - The docs repo has been broken for multiple months. I’d like for there to be reflection on why this happened and how we can prevent this in the future. I think this is more important than figuring out who is repsonible for fixing examples. JW – This is ultimately my responsibility - I set JM’s priorities. … MT – I may be tlaking about something different. One example is that a NAGL example is broken because something outside broke, and another example is that the docs machinery itself broke. JW – In first case, JM’s responisiblity would be to open an issue in the responsible repo’s tracker and eventually drop the example if not fixed. In the latter case, I’ll tell JM to basically have “fix docs CI machinery” as a top priority that always gets at least one day a week of his time, even in workshop season (or when other top priorities are around).
MT – First case sounds good. I have a few concerns about the second case - A big one is that the docs repo’s bus factor is on average less than 1. JM may get alternate funding or otherwise become unavailable at various times and this would leave the docs unmaintained. JW – In strategy meeting yesterday we discussed what each team would want if we had more resources, and I said that having more people to be repo owners would make our lives much easier. MT – Yes, a developer of any sort would be very welcomed if we had funding for that. JW – Interest in taking on some science work?
